Last week, we had a wonderful trip to the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis.
The focus of our trip was to consolidate our knowledge about biomes and climates as well as to remind ourselves about our rainforest topic from earlier in the year.

Our morning started by investigating some interesting objects and meeting some crawly animals and considering how they were adapted to their habitats. Children sorted animals into different biomes.

We looked around the inside of the Wildlife Oasis, meeting lizards, bats and even a tarantula! Our guide, Zack, told us lots of interesting facts about each of the animals and discussed their rainforest habitats with us. We got to have an extra special look at some of the frogspawn and tadpoles for an extremely rare and endangered dart frog, which was very exciting!

In the afternoon, we discussed some of the products that originated from the rainforest or rainforest derived ingredients. Children were surprised how many things came from the rainforest! We then got to explore the outdoor area of the Wildlife Oasis, which was full of a variety of interesting animals. We discussed their adaptations and considered which biome their habitat might belong in.
We were really impressed by the meerkats, lynx and the Scottish wildcat!

Overall, it was a wonderful day filled with plenty of learning and so many fascinating creatures!
