We were privileged to be able to have a visit from Rachel and Mhairi from STEM Ambassadors this afternoon. Today’s session was all about setting up an (paper) aeroplane business!
The children were asked to organise their teams to come up with a plane company and logo first of all. Next they were told to produce the best paper aeroplanes they could design and make so that they could sell them for a profit. Each team was given thirty gold tokens to use to buy materials (paper, pens, ruler) and if their planes flew five metres or more they could sell them.
The teams worked brilliantly to share out the jobs of plane designers, flight test engineer, financial advisor so that their company did the best they could in the 30 minutes they had to complete the task.
It was a great afternoon and very competitive but in the end, the teams were asked to stop and see if they had made a profit…did they end up with more than 30 tokens? Three teams out of the five managed to make more money than they started with and the winning team made 45 tokens of profit! Well done Abi, Maddi, Joe and Nathaniel!

Thank you to Mhairi and Rachel for taking the time to visit our school and inspire our Upper School children. They have learnt so much about STEM careers with these fantastic teachers.
